Cube³ Is BMES 2023 Bound!
Research in Community Building by Tiffany and Tate Is Accepted by BMES 2023

Big congratulations to our cubicles, Tiffany Chan and Tate Chatfield! The work titled "Initial investigation of student-faculty micro-interactions on students’ sense of belonging through organized student-faculty lunches" has been accepted by 2023 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Annual Meeting. Cube³ will be presenting our poster at 3:30-4:30pm on Friday, 10/13, in Seattle, WA. If you will be going to BMES 2023, please stop by and check us out!
This project belongs to the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)-branch of Cube³. This project intends to investigate the effect of informal student-faculty interactions on students' community building. We will be presenting our results from our first set of activities, three student-faculty lunches conducted in Spring 2023. A total of 12 undergraduate students and 3 faculties were invited to these lunches. These lunches were sponsored by the BME Health, Equity, and Wellness (HEW) Committee. Surveys have shown that these casual lunches had long-lasting positive impact on students' sense of belonging and clarity of career goals.
Cube³ will be organizing more community building activities with the BME HEW committee in Fall 2023 and beyond, including student-faculty lunches, board game nights, mental health posters, and the open-house. If you are a BME student reading this article, we look forward to seeing you in one of our future events!
